SUBJECT: NHS/Four Loving Paws® Training Agreement
Congratulations on your interest in the veterinary profession! Having the opportunity to experience what a career looks like while finishing High School will be a great advantage to your future.
Four Loving Paws® Veterinary Services has the potential to host 2 technician assistants for the 2017-2018 school year. We want to take an opportunity to “announce” the position and give you an idea of the expectations for the job as you consider the opportunity to apply.
Our technician team is fully integrated within the facility. Our staff is the heart of our practice. We will be depending on you to help make the team and the clinic a success. Everyone participates in the daily activities and additional administrative responsibilities as assigned. We may have projects to work on outside of the daily tasks. At Four Loving Paws®, we focus on compassionate medicine, client education and promoting the human/animal bond. We are looking for students who possess the ability to work hard, multi-task, maintain their school responsibilities, be outgoing, and have fun!
Be prepared to work hard and love practicing the art of veterinary medicine each day. Our slogan is, “Blessing’s come from four loving paws…” and we aim to maintain the highest quality of relationship between our clients and their beloved pets. We offer the best recommendations and work with our clients to maximize the care they can provide.
As a technician assistant we will focus on life skills (that can’t be taught in school) in a positive environment with a culture you expect from an excellent animal hospital. We require the following skillsets:
Honesty and integrity: doing what is right every time, even when not supervised. Accountability: accomplish your tasks timely and completely, without being pushed or prodded. Know what you’re supposed to do and do it, if you don’t know, ask! A strong work ethic and drive: To do your best every day To your patients: treat them as your own, provide the highest quality of care and attention to detail To your clients: they are our family and they deserve respect, politeness/manners, fair treatment without judgement, our consideration and flexibility, care and empathy. We don’t cut corners To your team: We depend on each other, have situational awareness (predict how to help each other), learn and grow together, carry your weight and we’ll succeed together To the clinic: When we succeed, you will succeed. In supporting each other the practice is healthy and grows – and so will you.
School is the most important focus. If anything gets in the way of you doing your very best and succeeding in your class work we will make schedule changes or discontinue the internship. We ask that you start your internship 1 month prior to the beginning of classes. You work a full-time schedule to get a foundation of the training, tasks, and responsibilities expected of you so the transition between summer and starting school will be as manageable as possible. Extra-curricular activities are encouraged and during the interview process we will talk about how that will affect the work schedule.
You are required to work the hours expected from the course; however, in our profession we typically never stop when the clock hits closing time. Our desirable intern will work through the close of business in order to maximize the experience and training opportunities being provided. We want you to learn as much as possible going into college and give you as much resume building experience as possible.
After classes end (the spring semester) we ask you to again assume a full-time work schedule for 2 additional months. There are several reasons why this is a benefit for your development. At that point you will be beyond the basic skills and training and can potentially develop into a veterinary assistant. You will have completed a full year of work experience (which speaks more to future employers and college admissions). You will have a better grasp on the level of responsibility and understand accountability, work ethic, and commitment to your future profession. These characteristics speak much stronger to you as a future employee than the skills you learned in the position. I personally hire based on those skills first!
Participation during holiday breaks is encouraged, but not mandatory.
Hours:Our hours of operation are:
Our mission is, “To provide the highest quality of veterinary care manageable (for the client) and peace of mind through preventative medicine to every client, every patient, every day.
